Bawabawa

Shaped like an enormous snake, Bawabawa wears a plain plated mask crowned by a pair of horns. Oversized lips frame a mouthful of equally oversized teeth. His back runs smooth and unbroken, while the paler underside beneath it is divided into segments.

The creature doubles as both pet and transport for Pesche Guatiche, Dondochakka, and Nel Tu. He is thin-skinned about being left out of the group's sentai-style posing routines, sulking and bursting into tears whenever he is overlooked. Nel initially claims he cannot survive away from sand, which is why he stays behind rather than following them into Las Noches. For all his intimidating looks, Bawabawa is a soft, emotional thing rather than a villain, though he will throw himself into a fight when the situation calls for it.

He first turns up in an endless game of tag, chasing Nel alongside Pesche and Dondochakka, which Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryū Ishida, and Yasutora Sado misread as an attack, prompting Sado to strike him until Nel clears up the confusion. When the giant Runuganga rises against the group, Bawabawa struggles up out of the sand pit while Rukia Kuchiki eventually shatters the sand Hollow using the ice of her Shikai release. The band then rides Bawabawa to the outer wall of Las Noches before he slips away as they head inside. Later he tracks Rukia's scent through the Forest of Menos to reunite the scattered group, aided by Ashido Kanō, a Shinigami long stranded there. Later still, Dondochakka releases him to help fight Szayelaporro Granz, where Pesche reveals him to be one of many spirit combat insects living within Dondochakka, though Szayelaporro halts his charge with ease.
