Appearance

Charlotte cuts an imposing figure, tall and heavily built with a muscular frame that stands well over six feet. His look and manner lean hard into the style of a flamboyant drag queen, finished with long wavy hair that runs black in the manga and purple in the anime. Glossy lips, pale blue eyes, and long curling lashes complete the face, while the remains of his Hollow mask sit atop his head like a small horned tiara. His Arrancar garb is dressed up with feminine flourishes to suit him. After Mayuri Kurotsuchi brings him back from the dead, a pair of large crossing stitches mark his midsection.

Personality

Vanity defines Charlotte utterly. He proclaims himself the most beautiful being in existence, styles himself a princess, and insists that true beauty springs from the heart rather than the face, a conviction that turns the opening of his duel with Yumichika Ayasegawa into a shouting match of traded insults. Beneath the goofy, theatrical surface he grows genuinely serious once a fight begins. He reveres his master Baraggan Louisenbairn, addressing him as his majesty, and he prizes his own hair so highly that he holds off releasing his Zanpakutō until Yumichika ruins it. He also fancies himself gifted at naming and saddles his attacks with absurdly long titles. For all his conceit, he ends up respecting Yumichika for concealing his sword's real power even when cornered.

History

Charlotte served as the twentieth Arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's army and stood among the six Fracción loyal to Baraggan Louisenbairn. During the clash in the fabricated Karakura Town, he and his fellow Fracción were dispatched to bring down the pillars anchoring the real town, and Charlotte was matched against the Eleventh Division's Yumichika Ayasegawa. Their fight opened as a barrage of insults and grandly-named strikes, but once Yumichika sheared off part of his treasured hair, an enraged Charlotte released his Resurrección, Reina De Rosas, the Queen of Roses. Its ability Rosa Blanca sealed the two of them inside a shroud that hid them from sight and masked their spiritual pressure, so no one would witness the kill. Yumichika answered by unveiling his blade's true form, Ruri'iro Kujaku, whose vines drained Charlotte's energy and finished him. He died acknowledging his rival's strength.

Long after his death, Charlotte returns during the second Wandenreich assault, resurrected by Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi as part of his Corpse Unit and rebuilt with new drug-based tricks. Thrown against the zombie army raised by the Sternritter Giselle Gewelle, he manhandles the undead Bambietta Basterbine and knocks her aside with a Cero. His arrogance undoes him again, though: closing on the zombified Tōshirō Hitsugaya, he is cut down in a single stroke and only survives because Mayuri intervenes, leaving him lingering near death as a rebuke for his recklessness.
