Black Moon Clan

Members of the clan are marked by an inverted black crescent set upon the forehead, a dark echo of the golden crescent worn by the Silver Millennium. Each also carries diamond-shaped earrings cut from the Malefic Black Crystal, ornaments that let them teleport across vast distances in a burst of shadow.

The clan is bound together by hatred and a thirst for revenge, feelings Wiseman quietly cultivates to serve ends of his own. Though Prince Demande commands them in the open, the true will steering the group is Wiseman's, who manipulates even the prince toward the release of Death Phantom and the ruin of Crystal Tokyo. Beneath their menace, most members act as unwitting pawns of that deception. Their foot soldiers are the Droids, uniform screeching constructs in the manga but distinct, talking monsters in the anime.

The clan originates on thirtieth-century Earth, its members banished to Nemesis by Neo-Queen Serenity. Wiseman seizes the exile as his opening, stoking their resentment and steering them toward vengeance. They storm Crystal Tokyo, leveling everything but the barrier-shielded Crystal Palace and freezing its people, the queen among them, into a statue-like sleep. Sailor Pluto spirits away the royal daughter, Chibiusa, sending her into the past for safety.

Pursuing the girl they call the Rabbit, along with the Silver Crystal, the clan follows her to twentieth-century Tokyo, arriving soon after the Makai Tree affair and resolving to conquer that era as well. Rubeus leads the first push, directing the Spectre Sisters and their Droids to corrupt the sites destined to become Crystal Tokyo's Crystal Points, yet the Sailor Guardians thwart him at every turn and Sailor Moon even redeems each of the sisters. His repeated failures earn Esmeraude's scorn. In a last bid, Rubeus captures four of the Guardians aboard his ship, but Chibiusa destroys his dark crystal and frees them; he perishes when the vessel self-destructs.

Esmeraude fares no better, and Wiseman finally reshapes her into a monstrous dragon before the united Guardians bring her down. Wiseman then claims his true prize, capturing the isolated Chibiusa and warping her into Black Lady. Saphir, having uncovered Wiseman's real aims, is silenced before he can fully warn his brother Demande. As the Malefic Black Crystal grows on Earth to open a gateway for darkness, Sailor Moon reaches Demande and opens his eyes to the truth; he turns on Wiseman but is struck down. In the end, Sailor Moon becomes Neo-Queen Serenity and reclaims Chibiusa, and together with the Guardians and the Silver Crystal they scatter the encroaching darkness and destroy Wiseman for good.
