Himeko Nayotake

Himeko is a young woman of twenty-two who has already earned fame as an astronaut, and her single screen role comes in the Sailor Moon S film. Megumi Hayashibara voices her in Japanese. Her name plays on the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, folding in the readings for bamboo and for princess.

She keeps her feet firmly on the ground and scoffs at Kakeru's daydreams, teasing him over his belief in a moon princess called Snow Kaguya. In her view he could have made a fine astronaut himself if only he would set those fantasies aside. For all her scolding, the two of them are genuinely in love.

Himeko is chosen for the Luna Frontier Project after establishing herself in the field. She first appears at Kakeru's apartment, where he is nursing the cat Luna back to health following a near miss with a car. Later, once the Imperium Silver Crystal destroys Princess Snow Kaguya, Himeko catches the crystal's glow from orbit and wonders whether it belongs to the moon princess of Kakeru's stories. When her mission ends and she comes home, Kakeru is waiting at the airport with an armful of roses.
