A Handsome Boy? Haruka Tenoh's Secret

After meeting the striking Haruka Tenoh at the arcade, Usagi and Minako are both smitten, convinced they have found a handsome and sophisticated young man. Their infatuation, and their curiosity about Haruka's bond with the refined Michiru Kaioh, carries the episode, even as neither girl realizes Haruka is a woman.

At the game center, a Mugen Academy student trounces Minako at a racing game even after spotting her a lead, and moments later Michiru arrives to collect Haruka. Dazzled, Usagi and Minako miss the truth behind Haruka's androgynous look and gender-neutral name. Nearby, a Daimon Egg lodges itself in the steering wheel of a car the garage owner Kameda is repairing, and the resulting monster rips out his heart crystal.

As the girls transform, Haruka and Michiru give chase on a motorbike and change into Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune out of sight. The two newcomers weaken the Daimon with World Shaking and Deep Submerge, and on Venus's cue Sailor Moon ends it with Moon Spiral Heart Attack. Uranus hands Kameda's heart crystal to Sailor Moon, noting that it is not pure and asking her to return it to its owner.

The next day the other guardians, having guessed who Usagi and Minako were chasing, ask after Haruka. Michiru simply points her out, jacket off and shirt loosened, and the reveal of Haruka's true gender leaves the group stunned. Haruka only shrugs it off, remarking that she never claimed to be a boy, while Usagi insists she suspected as much all along.

The episode brings Haruka and Michiru into the story for the first time and gives both World Shaking and Deep Submerge their named debut, along with the pair's first appearance in civilian clothes. It also swaps in Tuxedo Mirage as the new closing theme, grants Venus's transformation its own music, and refreshes the animation for Usagi's Moon Cosmic Power sequence. Cloverway's dub retitled it Driving Dangerously.
