A School Storm: The Transfer Students Are Idols

Usagi pours her feelings into a love letter for the absent Mamoru, only to find Ami, Minako, and Makoto reading over her shoulder and picking it apart. Her friends have each thrown themselves into new clubs, from athletics and volleyball to the computer lab, leaving Usagi to walk home alone. Along the way she collides with Seiya, and their mutual recognition quickly sours into another argument fueled by his overconfidence.

The next morning the campus buzzes as the Three Lights arrive to enroll, revealing that Rei, Makoto, Minako, and even Ami all hold fan-club numbers. Meanwhile Sailor Iron Mouse scans television broadcasts for another Star Seed candidate and settles on an American football player named Yuji Kayama.

Seiya samples club after club at Usagi's reluctant side, dazzling the basketball court before being flattened during football practice by Yuji, who then invites him onto the team. Once practice ends, Iron Mouse approaches Yuji in her civilian guise of Chuuko Nezu, drops the disguise, and rips out his Star Seed. The seed dims almost instantly, proving false, so she abandons the failure and leaves behind the phage Sailor Guts.

The monster hurls balls of sweat that dissolve the ground, forcing Sailor Moon to keep running until Jupiter and the others arrive. Jupiter's Jupiter Oak Evolution counters the attack, yet the Guardians hesitate to harm the transformed victim. When the Sailor Starlights appear and mock their restraint, Star Maker's Star Gentle Uterus stuns the phage, letting Sailor Moon restore Yuji with Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss before the Starlights slip away unseen.

The eighth episode of the fifth season premiered in Japan on May 18, 1996, written by Kazuhiko Kobe and directed by Harume Kosaka, and it marks the first appearance of Star Gentle Uterus. A closing scene has Usagi proudly showing off a manga-club sketch that her friends fail to recognize as Luna.

The manga handles the setup differently: Haruka and Michiru assist the girls at school, Setsuna works as a nurse and Hotaru's surrogate mother, Rei carries no crush on the idols, and only Minako belongs to the fan club. A trivia note points out that a document Ami prints in the computer lab actually holds slightly garbled lyrics to the song "Danger Zone."
