Dispute Over Love: Minako and Makoto's Conflict

Sulking in a park full of couples, Minako grows testy when Makoto shows up late, and the two friends fall to bickering about their love lives while Usagi arrives to referee. Chibiusa needles all three for pining after boys who dumped them. Elsewhere, Rubeus hands Calaveras a Crystal Point to corrupt, but she hesitates and loses the assignment to Petz, then summons the droid Jamanen before rejoining her sister.

Still feuding, Makoto and Minako wander into a shop run by the disguised sisters that sells gems promising to rekindle lost romance. In truth the stones invert every wish and leak dark energy. The two friends reconcile and decide they need no magic, but the mood sours when Mamoru appears with Chibiusa and Usagi rebuffs him. His departure sparks another quarrel between Usagi and Chibiusa.

Fed up with all the talk of love, Petz and Calaveras drop their disguises and unleash Jamanen. Minako fogs the store with a fire extinguisher and transforms using Venus Star Power, with Makoto answering through Jupiter Star Power. Both are captured until Mars and Mercury arrive to break them loose with Burning Mandala. Venus then binds the foe with her Love-Me Chain while Jupiter unloads Sparkling Wide Pressure, driving the sisters into retreat and leaving the droid behind. Usagi tucks Chibiusa into a closet, transforms, and finishes Jamanen with Moon Princess Halation before the group heads off to eat together.

The plot is original to the anime and never took place in the manga. It debuts the upgraded transformations Jupiter Star Power and Venus Star Power, along with the attacks Sparkling Wide Pressure and Venus Love-Me Chain, the latter carried as a physical accessory on Venus's outfit. The DiC dub rewrote the sisters' motives so they wanted the girls gone yet needed them for their scheme, and it removed the shot of the shop's real employees stripped and held captive in the back room. Years later, SuperS would revisit the same Minako-and-Makoto rift and again grant both new attacks in a single episode.
