Haruka and Michiru Return: The Ghostly Puppet Play

Away on a getaway, Haruka and Michiru check into a hotel where a ventriloquist and his hungry puppet are performing. The dummy has waited centuries to feed, and the act boasts a bottle it claims holds the honest feelings of every human alive. Sensing something wrong, Michiru walks out mid-show. Back in their room Haruka, recovering from a nasty fever, is caught flirting with a maid, though Michiru only teases her before both women admit the hotel harbors a presence unlike anything they have faced.

The guests downstairs collapse as the ventriloquist reveals the Dead Moon Circus emblem on his brow. The maid, now bearing the same mark, ambushes Michiru on the balcony until she blacks out. Hearing Haruka scream, Michiru becomes Sailor Neptune and storms the bedroom, where the puppeteer and dummy are siphoning off Haruka's strength after her Lip Rod slips from her weakened grip. The ventriloquist warns that smashing the jar in the puppet's hands will loose every shadow on Earth against its owner, but Neptune reads the bluff and fires Deep Submerge anyway, shattering the vessel and freeing her partner.

Asked how she knew he was lying, Neptune admits she did not, saying the world is only worth rescuing so long as Haruka lives in it. Once revived, Haruka transforms into Sailor Uranus and turns on the true villain, the dummy itself, crushing it with World Shaking. Its destruction breaks the ventriloquist's control and wakes the sleeping guests. Standing above the sea afterward, Haruka grips a shard of the puppet and asks who the new foe is, and Michiru answers that the coming Messiah will handle it.

This is the only broadcast segment of Sailor Moon SuperS to bring Haruka and Michiru back. Sailor Moon herself never appears in the story apart from a closing image, yet her voice is still heard reading the episode title as usual.
