Juban Holiday: The Carefree Princess

A television bulletin reports that the touring dignitary Princess Rubina has taken ill and must postpone her official engagements. Diana notes to Luna that in the future both Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion tended to fall sick on days of important events yet recover overnight, a remark that leaves Luna eyeing Usagi and Mamoru with fresh suspicion.

Rubina, in fact, has quietly shed her gown and tiara to move about as an ordinary civilian. She crosses paths with Usagi and Chibiusa after the pair drop their groceries during a squabble, and later turns up at the Tsukino doorstep hoping to join them at the neighborhood summer festival. Diana recognizes her as the princess from the news.

At the Dead Moon Circus the Amazon Trio spot Rubina's picture and jeer at her supposed illness, until Hawk's Eye decides to pursue her once Tiger's Eye and Fish Eye pass. At the festival Rubina, moved by a boy denied a balloon, buys him one and then gives balloons to a whole crowd of children, provoking the vendor's fury. Hawk's Eye intervenes but blows Rubina's cover by calling her name, sending her fleeing.

After she reunites with Mamoru, Usagi and Chibiusa to watch the fireworks, Rubina becomes separated in the crowd and Hawk's Eye ambushes her, revealing his true shape and probing her Dream Mirror for Pegasus. Hearing her cries, Usagi and Chibiusa transform into Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon. Finding no Pegasus, a frustrated Hawk's Eye summons the chatty Lemures Elephanko. A rose from Tuxedo Mask halts Elephanko's charge, Chibi Moon calls Pegasus with the Crystal Carillon, and Super Sailor Moon ends the fight with Moon Gorgeous Meditation.

Junichi Satou directed the episode from a script by Megumi Sugihara, and it first aired in Japan on August 26, 1995. The CWi dub, titled The Duchess's Day Off, premiered in North America on October 20, 2000. With her outing enjoyed and her health restored, Rubina thanks her three hosts before Mamoru escorts her back to the consulate.
