Rubeus the Heartless: The Tragic Sisters

Wiseman corners Rubeus with a stark choice between triumph and death, and Rubeus vows to spend his followers freely to bring down Chibiusa and the Guardians. Watching through a mirror, Petz and Calaveras are disgusted to find their younger sisters Koan and Berthier now living peacefully among their former enemies. Petz swears to wipe out the traitors along with the Rabbit and the Senshi, and Rubeus arms her with an enchanted Stick to guarantee it.

At Hikawa Shrine, the reformed sisters help Rei rake leaves in exchange for roasted sweet potatoes, and Berthier confesses her regret and her wish to fight the Black Moon Clan. That calm shatters when a beam of light abducts Koan and Berthier and carries them off. The girls transform and give chase to the half-built Rainbow Bridge, with Chibiusa trailing behind and realizing for the first time that her friends are the Sailor Guardians.

Petz's captured sisters serve as bait. The Stick supercharges her Dark Thunder, which overwhelms Sailor Jupiter's Sparkling Wide Pressure, and her boosted speed lets her dodge Venus Love Me Chain and swat away Burning Mandala before flattening all five Senshi. Mercury pinpoints the wand as the source of her strength. When Koan and Berthier beg her to stop and warn her about Rubeus, a maddened Petz turns on Calaveras too, aiming to destroy all three siblings at once.

The Guardians shield the wounded sisters, and Calaveras, stunned by their compassion, begins to soften. Following her tip that the Stick's evil has hijacked Petz's mind, Mercury blinds Petz with Shabon Spray, Venus rips the wand away with her chain, and Jupiter knocks her down. Rubeus then reveals his true design: having gathered sisters and Senshi in one place, he activates the Stick to swallow them all in a dimensional rift, discarding Petz as expendable. Her sisters haul her back from the edge, and after Tuxedo Mask urges the Guardians to combine their strength, they leap in and unleash Sailor Planet Power to shatter both the wand and its black hole. Sailor Moon then restores Petz and Calaveras to human form with Moon Crystal Power.

The episode debuts both the Stick and the Sailor Planet Power attack. From the sidelines Chibiusa grasps that Usagi holds the Silver Crystal she has been seeking, and Rubeus, spying through his own mirror, learns the same secret. The four redeemed Spectre Sisters close the story by opening a cosmetics stall together in the Juban shopping district.

In the manga, Petz and Calaveras were instead killed by Moon Princess Halation rather than healed. This was originally intended as DiC's final English installment because low ratings and a syndication cap of 65 episodes ended production, and it stands as the last DiC episode voiced by Toby Proctor as Darien. New English episodes only resumed years later once Cartoon Network picked up the series.
