Sailor Change Star

The Sailor Change Star is the tool the Sailor Starlights depend on to assume their Sailor Senshi identities. Every member of the trio owns one, and all three are indistinguishable from each other. The device comes as a matched set: a cordless white microphone together with a transformation brooch built in the shape of an inverted triangle crowned by a winged star.

To transform, a Starlight raises the brooch and speaks her activation phrase into the microphone, calling out Fighter Star Power, Healer Star Power, or Maker Star Power followed by Make Up. Once the change completes, the brooch settles at the front of the sailor uniform in the spot where the other guardians wear their bows. According to Naoko Takeuchi's own notes, the Starlights store their Sailor Crystals inside these Change Stars.

The Sailor Starlights, in their civilian guise as the idol group Three Lights, are the exclusive users. In the manga they hang the brooch on a chain beneath their clothing, and the microphone clips to the earlobe like an earring; there the mics do not always vanish once a transformation ends. The anime reworks the earpiece into a pentagon bearing a five-pointed star and a translucent blue wing, set with three gems whose red, blue, and green hues correspond to Star Fighter, Star Maker, and Star Healer. In that version the headset shows up only during transformations and introduction scenes before disappearing.
