Chibiusa's Picture Diary Chapter 3 - Beware of Cavities

Usagi and her future daughter both wind up with rotten teeth and reluctantly agree to seek treatment. Trouble is, the office they pick has been seized by a spirit that grows stronger from decay, so the appointment turns into a confrontation instead of a cleaning. With the kitten Diana and Sailor V lending a hand, the group purges the clinic and returns it to its ordinary state.

Ikuko bakes something sweet for her family after each school and work day, which is exactly why Chibiusa is fretting on her walk to Juban Public Elementary. Momo notices her worry and Kyuusuke only makes things worse with his teasing. A checkup from Ami confirms decay in Chibiusa, and Usagi turns out to be riddled with it too. Having grown up in the cavity-free 30th century, the pampered princess is horrified when Rei, Ami, and Minako spell out the disease for her. Ikuko overhears the plan to visit a dentist and lectures both girls about neglecting their teeth.

Kenji and Diana accompany them to the aging Juban Dental Clinic, where the elderly dentist and his old-fashioned methods terrify the pair into fleeing untreated. That night a resident spirit named Resin, which draws nourishment from decayed teeth, awakens and takes over the building along with its dentist to breed more cavities. A flashy advertisement for the remodeled clinic, complete with a good-looking new dentist, lures Minako into tagging along on the return trip. The visitors are handed sweets that knock everyone unconscious except Diana, who rescues Chibiusa as she is summoned for her appointment.

Chibiusa transforms, and the spirit torments Super Sailor Chibi Moon by making her aching teeth flare, sending her into tears that trigger Supersonic Waves. As the enemies pelt her with cake, Diana rouses Usagi and Minako. Sailor V and Super Sailor Moon crash in to steady the crying child, and Super Sailor Chibi Moon finishes the spirit off with Pink Sugar Heart Attack. The clinic and its dentist snap back to normal, disappointing Minako. Afterward the girls finally have their cavities fixed by the old dentist, and Ikuko switches to sugar-free treats.

The chapter marks the debut of Resin, the old dentist, and the Juban Dental Clinic, and it is the first time Chibiusa uses Supersonic Waves. The manga originally carried only the plain title of Chibiusa's Picture Diary, and the Beware of Cavities subtitle arrived with a later re-release. This side story was eventually reworked into a Sailor Moon anime episode, Dentist of Horrors? PallaPalla's House. A passing boast from Ikuko, who claims never to have had a cavity across her thirty-six years, is how readers learn her age.
