Kanaguri

Long-limbed and lean, Kanaguri wears his black hair in a bowl cut streaked with brown fades, with a film-reel motif shaved into the left side of his head. Green eyes framed by long lower lashes sit above his usual outfit: dark pants and shoes, a pale grey polo layered under a lengthy black coat, and a scarf patterned with film reels. After Etsuko Satoda's dying strike cost him the sight in his right eye, he took to covering it with a black patch. A movie camera is never far from his hands.

Kanaguri lives and breathes cinema to the point of obsession, chasing usable footage at every turn and injecting extra action whenever a scene bores him. His moods rise and fall with his camera: he slips into a frenzied fervor while capturing a decisive shot and sinks into gloom when the device breaks and its footage is lost, and he will threaten anyone who mocks his work. Yet he adapts fast, reframing each setback as fresh material. His devotion outruns his morality; he happily films the war between the JAA and its enemies without caring who wins, guided by the belief that the universe is one vast movie set and everyone in it a performer. That detachment keeps him unnervingly composed, still rolling film while plummeting from a disintegrating aircraft.

By his own account Kanaguri is no assassin and owns not a shred of killing talent, only superhuman gifts as a first-rate filmmaker, yet before joining the trade he cut down a close friend who ranked as an elite professional, a feat that fast-tracked him into the Order. His powers key off his camera: strip it away and his drive and strength wane, hand him a replacement and he surges back. When a shot demands it his body simply performs better, so much so that Etsuko Satoda could not budge the arm holding his camera because moving it would have spoiled the frame. He is a deadly marksman, dropping a plane's pilot with a headshot fired blind through a closed door, and freakishly strong and fast, lopping the heads off eight applicants with his clapperboard, cracking Sakamoto's bullet-resistant glasses with a mere phone, and moving quickly enough that Shin Asakura's foresight cannot track him.

His toolkit matches his trade. He swings a sharpened clapperboard branded with his studio as a melee blade, carries an arsenal of camcorders for filming, and has wielded a bulky camera rigged to fire concentrated energy blasts strong enough to tear a plane apart in flight, plus a custom stage light that works as a cutting, reflecting laser.
