Summary

Lu turns up two hours late for her shift at the store, and Shin lays into her over it. Judging by how she is dressed, he assumes she has never held a job, though Lu insists otherwise, claiming she had been busy helping her father bury several oversized bags. Fed up, Shin asks Taro to let her go, but the shopkeeper refuses to be so harsh and instead hands out the morning chores: outdoor cleaning for Shin and restocking the pork buns for Lu. Hearing Taro speak at such length stuns both of them, since even his inner thoughts tend to run clipped, a remark that leaves Taro insisting he is a person and not a slab of meat.

A second Sakamoto then walks through the door, and the newcomer briefly wonders whether the two of them are twins. The Taro who had been buried in the newspaper lunges with a blade straight through the pages, only for the arrival to slip aside, grab a paper cutter, and press it to the attacker's throat while greeting an old acquaintance by name. The imposter drops the disguise, revealing himself as Nagumo and praising Taro for keeping his edge. Shin is unsettled that he could not read the man's mind at all. Nagumo presents himself as an eighteen-year-old friend who runs the supermarket across the street, but Shin peeks into Taro's memory and learns the truth: Nagumo once worked beside Taro during his killing days and is really twenty-seven. Furious at the lies, Shin and Lu thrash him and tie him up.

Bound to a chair, Nagumo announces that a one billion yen bounty has been placed on Taro, settled at the previous day's gathering of assassins and due to go public the next morning. The pair doubt him until a pizza courier arrives, and Shin catches the delivery man thinking of them as easy prey. The killer, known as Pizza Nakajima, brandishes a pair of pizza cutters and threatens Nagumo, growing irritated when Taro simply keeps eating his slice. In a blink Nagumo breaks loose, locks Nakajima in a chokehold, and proves his warning was genuine. He is about to snap the man's neck when Taro stops him, and Nagumo, surprised the no-kill rule still holds, backs off. He clarifies that he has no interest in the contract himself, since his line of work is preventing assassinations rather than carrying them out.

Taro asks who stands to gain from his death, and Nagumo replies that his people follow orders without prying into them, adding that Taro drew attention by wiping out the Danshokai Triad instead of fading quietly into retirement. He collects Nakajima and leaves. Watching through a hidden camera, members of the Dondenkai judge Nagumo the greater danger, though one warns the rest not to dismiss Taro as a former member of the Order. Others treat the Order as mere legend and figure a man five years out of the game will be simple to remove. Taro, having already spotted the lens, points a gun and fires, warning anyone who keeps hunting him of the hell that awaits. Shin frets that more killers will follow, and Taro decides staying home is safest, until his wife Aoi and daughter Hana appear to confirm he is ready for the amusement park trip he promised Hana the next day.
