Chapter 84: What a Nice Smell

Posing as an intern instructor, Shin, Akira, and Seba brief Sakamoto in disguise on their search for the database. They flag a student named Amane, a devotee of Slur willing to do anything to join his ranks, whose own assignment is to wipe out the Slur-related files as his ticket into the group. Sakamoto, meanwhile, cons a teacher out of the classroom master key and settles on sweeping the campus from its southern edge, all while fretting that his cover is slipping and time is short.

A flung nunchaku suddenly whips the master key from his grip. The thief is Amane, who cheerfully thanks him for it. The face jogs Sakamoto's memory: this is the son of Yotsumura, the former Japanese Association of Assassins order member who once clashed with Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi. When Amane wonders how he is recognized, Sakamoto explains that he and the elder Yotsumura were once colleagues, and that the man had spoken of having a boy.

Amane rejects the word father outright, branding Yotsumura the murderer who tore his family apart. A frantic chase ends with Sakamoto pinning the youth and reclaiming the key. Pressed on the source of his fury toward both the association and his own father, Amane reveals that Yotsumura killed his mother, the wound behind his vow to bring down the order and the man alike.

Amane is tied directly to Slur's cause, revealed as a JCC student tasked with destroying the records on Slur to earn membership. Sakamoto identifies him as the son of the former order member Yotsumura, and Amane discloses that his father killed his mother, the root of his hatred for the association. Shino Yotsumura is mentioned for the first time.

The Japanese title Ii Nioi translates to a remark about a pleasant smell. This eighty-fourth chapter continues the JCC Infiltration Arc within Volume 10 and appeared in the thirty-ninth 2022 issue with a late-August release. Amane, Taro Sakamoto, and Yotsumura feature, with Heisuke Mashimo, Lu Shaotang, Nagumo, Hyo, and Hana Sakamoto seen in flashback.
