Chapter 89: Sensei

Satoda and Kanaguri throw themselves into a brutal exchange. Kanaguri brings up that the teacher was once asked to join the Order, an invitation she waved off because her love of teaching pulled her toward the classroom instead. Her instinct to shield her pupils drives everything she does, fitting the woman she has become. The expectation is that Akira will pull Satoda clear while Sakamoto takes over the bout with Kanaguri. Even now, past her prime, Satoda carries enough strength to have belonged among the Order's ranks.

Attention also turns to the looming contest between Club Jam and Shin, with the open question of whether Shin's mind-reading can counter Club Jam's control over others. For all his apparent taste for pain both given and received, Club Jam may simply stand aside and let others do the fighting.

As the clash wears on, the students strain to guard Amane's grandfather, the keeper of the database, from the attackers. Club Jam's power to bend anyone to his will with a single clap makes him a formidable barrier. Satoda's raw ability rivals any Order member, yet her advanced age works against her, and by the chapter's close she appears to have been overcome.

Satoda and Kanaguri square off in earnest, and Kanaguri reveals that Satoda declined an Order invitation to become a teacher. Her protective devotion to her students is underscored, along with the sense that her prime-era strength matched the Order's own. The chapter frames the coming Shin versus Club Jam matchup, notes the students defending the database keeper, and ends with Satoda seemingly defeated as her age tells against her.
