Flashy and fond of display, Ali Hassan never lost his ties to the streets that raised him. Despite rising to power he kept returning to the slums where he had begged as a child, hauling in trucks loaded with bread and tossing it to the poor for the admiration it earned him. One principle stayed fixed beneath the showmanship: he would give food freely but never money.

Hassan's life turned over completely when the Cataclysm awakened him as a B-rank Hunter. From a beggar he rose to lead the Imphal Guild, standing as the face of the city that had shaped him. Nightmares of his old poverty still surfaced now and then, yet he savored the dreamlike reality he had won.

During the Asura Guild Arc, that guild seized control of every dungeon right in Imphal under the banner of protecting citizens, and the people embraced Stardust's involvement so thoroughly that the displaced Imphal Guild could raise no real objection. When Suho clashed with Siddharth Bachchan, Hassan was off the front line, freeing kidnapped civilians on the orders of Suho and Liu Zhigang, but the scale of the battle let him take in the whole spectacle from afar, and he was left dumbstruck. The shock deepened when Suho raised the fallen Siddharth as a Shadow soldier. Hassan had braced for necromancy, but seeing a national hero revived overwhelmed him to the point of collapse. In the aftermath he dissolved the Imphal Guild and swore himself to Suho, dispatching his members to hunt down Governor Manu Kizal, the official who had colluded with the Asura Guild. They caught Kizal trying to slip away to China, and Hassan let him live so the man could broadcast the truth to the world.
