Hwang Dongsuk

Hwang was a stocky, muscular young man whose spiky black hair sat above neatly trimmed facial hair, with several scars running along his left arm. For gear he kept it simple: brown pants and a plain black shirt, black gloves on his hands, and blue armor plating across his right shoulder and both lower legs. The revised timeline keeps him much the same, save that he now dons a three-piece suit and lets his spiky hair grow matted.

Hwang mirrored his brother as a selfish, arrogant sociopath who cared nothing for the innocent lives he sacrificed to benefit himself. He folded quickly against stronger opponents, pleading for mercy after Jinwoo drove him into the ground, and his bond with his brother seemed strained, since he forbade his teammates from even mentioning him. Even so, he held a measure of loyalty to his homeland and bristled at his brother selling out their countrymen for cash. Come the Ragnarok continuity, his nature held steady; once his C-Rank awakening arrived he cast his brother aside as useless yet still leaned on the man's reputation to gather criminals under him, proving tactical enough to exploit a Hunter's weakness while staying too cowardly to risk the Stardust's unknown origin.

Leading a strike team, Hwang headed a raid that turned on Sung Jinwoo and Yoo Jinho. His crew sprang the dungeon's boss fight early on purpose, then the Lizards fled the moment the boss emerged, abandoning the pair to fight it and sealing the exit behind them with a collapse of rocks so neither could escape. After Jinwoo brought the boss down by himself, the Lizards came back to finish him, only for the System to order Jinwoo to wipe out the rogue hunters; he executed Hwang along with the rest of the group. Learning of his brother's death sent Dongsoo to Korea, bent on killing Jinwoo and Yoo Jinho to uncover what had happened.

In the Ragnarok timeline, a C-Rank awakening came to Dongsuk before the story began; he turned his powers to crime and was eventually jailed. Drawing on Dongsoo's name, he rallied fellow inmates and, with help from the Itarim's apostle, orchestrated a massive prison breakout, keeping Kang Taeshik on as a bodyguard. His thread continues into the Jisan Prison Break Arc.
