Summary

For his first look at Jinwoo's shadows in action, Jinho watches in disbelief as the soldiers cut down beasts and even harvest essence stones across their newest raid. Far away in another bleak dungeon, a ragged stranger unsettles an American hunter by approaching and muttering that he wants to go home. Afterward Jinwoo and Jinho mark the completion of their guild raid count with beer and grilled meat; tipsy and candid, Jinho admits he and his real older brother are distant and wishes Jinwoo filled that role, to which Jinwoo gently replies that he will treat Jinho as a little brother from then on.

Locked quietly in a cell, the shabby stranger draws debate from two officials weighing his story of a decade spent inside a dungeon, half-suspecting he is a humanoid beast. His weak English forces them to call in Hwang Dongsoo, an S-Rank Hunter, for translation, and the captive is identified as Sung Il-Hwan. Jinwoo, for his part, readies a week-long hunt for the ingredients of an Elixir that might heal his mother, Kyung-Hye. Once inside the castle the System startles him with a quest demanding 10,000 beasts slain, which he takes on for her. Jinho, meanwhile, formally requests leadership of the Yoojin Guild, and Yoo Myung-Han consents provided Jinwoo signs on as a member.

Ascending floor by floor, Jinwoo levels steadily, calling forth a shadow ice bear he dubs Tank to hurry the climb. The fiftieth floor pits him against Avaricious Vulkan, a colossal, quick, and clever boss, but cunning and technique let Jinwoo end the creature. Elsewhere, Cha Hae-In thinks back on the mutated beasts she and Choi Jong-In saw at Jeju and questions the secrecy, while Choi maintains it is safer to prepare quietly than to alarm the public. In America, an interrogation by Hwang draws from Il-Hwan a warning that gates and monsters only herald a far greater disaster; when Hwang notices the man fathered a son called Jinwoo and threatens them both, Il-Hwan overpowers him, flattens the building, and disappears. Out of time and supplies by the seventy-fifth floor, Jinwoo still walks away richer in levels, holding a fresh secret dungeon key plus two of the three pieces the Elixir needs, and he promises himself a return to finish the task.

Key Events

The episode pays off the nineteen-dungeon promise between the two friends and lets Jinho finally glimpse the shadow soldiers he has only heard about. It plants Sung Il-Hwan into the story as a debut, surfacing him in American custody after a reported decade lost underground and tying him to Jinwoo by blood. Jinho edges closer to running the family guild, securing his father's blessing on the term that Jinwoo enlist. Most of all, Jinwoo's return to the Demon Castle becomes a grind: he accepts a quest to fell ten thousand monsters, names a new shadow bear, topples the floor-fifty boss Vulkan, and gathers two of the three Elixir ingredients meant to save his mother. Mutated beasts at Jeju and Il-Hwan's grim prophecy quietly widen the danger.
