Summary

The raid into the Cartenon Temple has been devastated. From the seventeen hunters who walked in, just six remain alive, and of those Song Chi-Yul and Sung Jinwoo are gravely hurt. Reduced to a handful, the survivors quarrel over their next move, and the pressure soon boils over into open hostility.

Kim Sangshik decides the moment calls for the Temple's Third Commandment, the command to prove one's faith. His proposal is to offer Song Chi-Yul to the altar, his reasoning being that the party leader carries fault for the catastrophe and so makes the proper sacrifice. The others largely balk at this, but Song himself buys into it enough to step toward the altar of his own will. A flame springs to life along its edge once he arrives.

Sensing something, the one-legged Sung Jinwoo requests that he be carried to the altar as well. As two hunters haul the wounded pair across, three more flames kindle at separate points around the rim. The two men size up their predicament. While the altar reads as relatively safe, the portal has gaped open for nearly a full week, and letting that window close without the boss being slain threatens to make the opening permanent.

Key Events

Reasoning that the last trials must be cleared before time expires, Sung Jinwoo calls for the two remaining survivors, Lee and Kim, to take their places at the altar too. Once everyone has gathered, a door grinds open in the outer chamber wall. The party weighs slipping out through it, then catches sight of the chamber's colossal statues beginning to lurch toward the altar.
