Camilla

Camilla is a fair-skinned young woman with short brows and blonde hair kept smooth and tidy, curling a little where it reaches her shoulders; every so often she gathers it into a low ponytail. Once she leaves the house she is seldom without gold hoop earrings and bold red lipstick. Her eye color never stays put: yellow whenever the anime or a colored manga page shows them, blue in scattered chapter art, and green on the thirteenth volume's cover.

For work she keeps to the regulation city hall outfit: a white long-sleeved shirt beneath a sleeveless vest, a matching skirt, and black heels. Her party outfit is a mid-length purple dress without sleeves, set off by a gold butterfly brooch at the chest, two gold bracelets of unlike size on the left arm and a single beaded one on the right. She rounds it out with blue heels and nails done in red. For Yor's cooking lessons she opts for a long-sleeved purple top, a loose white skirt dropping below the knee, and black heels.

Proud, loud, and fiercely competitive, Camilla judges people fast from their looks and from hearsay. Around the office she can turn haughty and sharp-tongued, aiming most of it at Yor, whom she first writes off as strange and awkward even though Yor has served there longer. Gossiping with coworkers is second nature, and any hint of being upstaged pricks her jealousy.

Behind that prickly front sits a genuine conscience. Once Yor's marriage and hard past come to light, her manner eases, though the care usually travels wrapped in a barb or a dry aside. The clearest sign is her grudging agreement to give Yor cooking lessons, which she sees through failure after failure once she recalls that rough childhood. Her boyfriend Dominic leaves her especially flustered and defensive; his affection exposes a softer, needier core she can seldom put into words, betraying a hunger for closeness and reassurance under all the armor. When danger strikes, the pretense drops: after the television studio hijacking she hunts Yor down, plainly rattled about her safety, only to rebound into envy over Yor's moment on screen. She also proves a capable cook with a solid command of Ostania's regional dishes. By quizzing Yor about her hometown, she works out which ingredients had gone missing and helps revive a childhood recipe the Briar siblings once shared.

Camilla enters the story as the host of a dinner party. Expecting Yor to turn up alone and easy to belittle, she is thrown into jealousy when Yor arrives on the arm of the poised, handsome Loid Forger. A staged trip meant to dump hot gratin on Yor backfires, and her insinuation that Yor once held a disreputable job collapses after Loid speaks with feeling about Yor's hard past and her devotion to Yuri, forcing Camilla to back off.

From there their paths keep crossing. Yor brings her marital worries to Camilla and the other clerks, who mostly advise her to drop Loid, yet Yor stays convinced Camilla is kind at heart. The cooking lessons prove her right: exasperation at Yor's hopeless kitchen skills melts into sincere help, and Camilla remarks that marriage has left Yor livelier. Yuri, met in person during those lessons, surprises her with his manners, while he warms to her only after she bluntly tells his sister to divorce. When overtime traps Camilla and Millie, Yor returns the favor by chipping in, and the group finally goes out together for a meal, ribbing Yor and glimpsing a warmer side of her. After the Five-Year Love Plan studio hijacking, Camilla seeks Yor out in open relief before sliding back into envy over her time on television, proof that the care underneath has become real.
