Sharon

Sharon is a fair-skinned young woman whose long black hair is combed back. Her glasses usually hide her eyes, which look narrowed and unimpressed when visible. The shade shifts by medium: her purple eye color turns up in the colored manga, the anime, and on the cover of the thirteenth volume, though the chapter illustrations leave the eyes black instead.

She pulls her hair back and fixes it with a plain, oversized barrette, adding half-rim glasses and slim white drop earrings. Most days she wears the city hall uniform, a white long-sleeved shirt under a sleeveless vest with a matching skirt, plus black heels. Camilla's party sees her in a blouse with long sleeves, black slacks cut to shin length, black heels, and a hairpiece set over her right ear.

Sharon is sociable and pragmatic, fond of trading gossip about her coworkers' private lives, Yor's above all. She first reads Yor as strange and joins Camilla and Millie in guessing at her behavior, but she is milder than her friends and inclined to weigh things sensibly. When the other two float the idea of turning Yor in to the SSS over a boyfriend she supposedly invented, Sharon waves it off, putting Yor's oddness down to harmless eccentricity.

As a wife and mother, she leans on her own home life whenever talk turns to marriage, romance, or raising children, and Yor often comes to her for guidance, even if Sharon ends up baffled by Yor's strange situation and thin romantic history. That domestic experience lends her a steadier outlook than most of her colleagues. She can be sarcastic and quick to judge, yet she owns her mistakes readily, as when she apologizes for wrongly suspecting Yor of an affair. Over time she warms to Yor considerably, still teasing and gossiping but increasingly protective, worrying over Anya, defending Yor's views, and nudging her toward Loid. Within the group she usually plays the calm center, tempering Camilla's blunt edge and reining in the more impulsive Millie.

Yor is Sharon's senior among the female clerks. Sharon first sees her as an awkward oddity but judges her less harshly than Camilla or Millie do. At Camilla's party, once Yor shows up alone despite claiming a boyfriend, Sharon brushes aside the others' talk of alerting the SSS, deciding Yor is merely peculiar rather than a real threat. After Yor's marriage to Loid comes out, Sharon takes a larger role in her coworker's life, offering advice as one of the handful of married clerks on staff even while Yor's inexperience leaves her puzzled.

Common ground grows once they realize both have children the same year at Eden Academy. When Anya is caught in a bus hijacking and fails to come home, a rattled Yor rings Sharon to check whether her own boy has gotten back safely. As Yor loosens up socially, Sharon starts inviting her to the group's after-work dinners, where they find a franker, more endearing side of her and tease her about Loid. She backs Yor in a run-in with the Lady Patriots Society, which erupts at the charity bazaar, later apologizes for wrongly assuming an affair, and pushes Yor to use tickets for a live Five-Year Love Plan broadcast as a date with Loid. With Camilla and Millie she keeps a close, long-running friendship, usually tempering Camilla's impulses and steadying the more emotional Millie, whose grief over her father's wartime death Sharon knows well. She is also a smoker who holds her cigarettes in her left hand.
