Lady Patriots Society

Berlint's Lady Patriots Society brings together women whose families carry real weight in Ostanian public life, a large share of them mothers of Eden Academy students. Melinda Desmond chairs the group, and several members knew her before her years as First Lady. Outsiders rarely get in, which makes Yor Forger's position unusual; she joins as a prospect only because Melinda extends a personal invitation.

Day to day, the society operates as a tight recreational and charitable circle. Members compete in a mothers' volleyball league and go bowling, frequently squaring off against the Northside Team, and they turn out for community occasions such as the Winter Sheep Festival and a charity bazaar held to support disabled veterans.

Its reputation cuts both ways. Women like Camilla and Sharon describe the group as nosy and domineering, and gossip holds that certain members report people to the State Security Service. Openly elitist or hostile conduct does surface from individuals, though Melinda steps in to discourage it, suggesting such behavior does not define the organization as a whole.

Melinda Desmond presides as chairwoman. Janet appears as a rank-and-file member, and Yor Forger holds prospect status following her invitation. At least eight additional unnamed women have been shown as part of the circle.
