Summary

Mission 65 of Tatsuya Endo's SPY x FAMILY appeared on July 25, 2022, filling 24 pages of Volume 10 within the Friendship Schemes Arc.

Before heading out shopping, Yor takes requests from Anya: the tea cakes Henderson shared, whose name Anya cannot recall, and the amazing cake she claims Damian pledged to her. Pleased that the two children seem friendly now, Yor sets off, only to freeze when the neighborhood women greet her outside. She wants to ask them for bakery recommendations but panics, convinced a proper mother would already know such things and that ignorance might get her reported to the State Security Service, so she flees instead. Deflated by her own awkwardness, she steels herself and picks a department store as the likeliest home of quality cakes.

Inside, a cosmetics clerk's pitch about eyeliner for piercing eyes rattles her, and she hurries toward the bakery floor. On the stairs she spots a woman about to tumble under a stack of boxes and catches both in a flash. The stranger, dazzled by Yor's reflexes, offers the boxed cakes as thanks if Yor will lend a hand with something. Declining fails; before long Yor stands in a gym uniform in a sports hall, drafted as a secret weapon for a mothers' volleyball team fielded by the Lady Patriots Society, a women's group devoted to community activities.

Told that volleyball is a perfectly normal pastime, Yor commits, despite never having played. A crash course in the rules cannot overcome her instinct to cover the whole court solo, and she racks up violations until the woman, Melinda, urges her to relax and simply enjoy the game. Yor settles into genuine teamwork and fun, though her strength slips loose more than once.

Over post-match tea and cake, the losing team laughs off the defeat, and Yor opens up about her doubts as a wife and mother, comforted to hear such worries are universal. She promises to join future gatherings, eager to learn from the group. Then talk turns to a son's Tonitrus Bolt, and Yor mentions her own first-grader at Eden Academy. The others point out that Melinda's own child belongs to that same grade, and Melinda, realizing exactly whose mother she is talking to, introduces herself by her full name: Melinda Desmond.

Notes

Melinda Desmond debuts here, though the chapter withholds her status as Donovan Desmond's wife; her butler and fellow society member Nola also appear for the first time. Episode 42 adapts the chapter, whose cover shows Yor, Anya, and Bond.

The department store Yor visits is the same one Anya and Becky toured in Chapter 36.
