Chapter 109

Loid greets his newest patient warmly at Berlint General Hospital, only for Melinda to throw her arms up defensively, still wary of his rumored "concussive therapy." In the consultation room she credits Yor's urging for the visit, and Loid marvels privately at how close the two women have grown. Her chart lists headaches, sleeplessness, and a fading appetite, so he probes for when the symptoms started and what might have set them off. Sensing her hesitation, he pledges total confidentiality, covering both their conversations and the fact she is being treated at all, and even invites her to report him should the sessions ever harm her.

Melinda remarks that Loid and Yor both strike her as full of life, implying she sees none of that in herself. Encouraged to open up, and with Loid quietly hoping for intelligence useful to Operation Strix, she dismisses her attendant Nola from the room. She recounts being hospitalized here during the second war, an experience soured by the era and by a doctor who treated her with open agitation. Because Yor has shown her that people today may see more in her than the former First Lady, she declares her intent to remake herself, explaining that she has come seeking help as both mother and wife.

When Loid asks whether her family is the source of her distress, Melinda answers with a question of her own: does he believe in UFOs? Recalling gossip about her occult obsessions, he plays along, chatting enthusiastically about UFO magazines and investigation reports until her flat reaction stops him. Steering back on course, he wonders aloud if the topic connects to her family, perhaps through Donovan and space exploration. Instead, Melinda states plainly that her husband himself is an alien, leaving Loid dumbfounded.

Melinda begins formal psychiatric care under Loid, giving Operation Strix a direct line to the Desmond household. She reveals a wartime hospitalization that left scars, credits Yor's friendship for her resolve to change, and dismisses Nola so she can speak freely.

The session ends on her claim that Donovan is an alien, the mystery that drives the following chapter.

At 12 pages, the chapter opens Volume 16 within the Term Break Arc and released on January 6, 2025, with Melinda and Loid sharing the cover. The English edition misspells Nola as "Nora" on page 6.

The MUUN magazines Loid mentions parody the real Japanese occult publication MU, and the chapter illustration nods to the Shibuya 109 department store, which once hosted a Loyal Dog Bond statue promoting SPY x FAMILY CODE: White.
