Chapter 35

Convinced that Loid means to swap her out for Fiona, Yor shuffles home in a stupor, and the neighbors' gossip about cheating reaches Loid's ears. Worried that such suspicion could travel through Yuri to the SSS, he pays Franky to watch Anya and Bond, then brings Yor to a bar to clear the air.

Yor decides that if Loid genuinely cares for Fiona she should bow out of their arrangement, but she cannot voice it, so she drains both their drinks for courage. Now drunk, she demands to know whether he loves Fiona and laments that she is neither pretty nor a proper wife. Reading the outburst as jealousy, Loid flips into what he calls Twilight Mode and attempts a honey trap, clasping her hands and beginning to ask her to become his wife for real. A mortified Yor answers with a kick that launches him skyward; he sticks the landing before the applauding onlookers, then blacks out anyway.

He wakes on Yor's lap in a nearby park as she sings the lullaby his mother once sang to him during the war. Loid tells her about that mother, whose strength made him feel safe no matter what, and connects it to Anya, whose cheerful nature rests on the security Yor provides. Insisting that someone who has been raising Yuri since her own childhood is unmatched as a parent, he asks her to stay on as his wife and as Anya's mother, and a tearful Yor accepts.

At home, Franky howls at Loid's swollen jaw while Anya crowns him a chin monster. Serving tea, Yor reflects that the Forgers have become a place she cannot imagine leaving behind. Come morning she has forgotten the entire night, and the couple must have the whole conversation again.

Neighborhood gossip convinces Loid that Yor suspects an affair with Fiona, a rumor dangerous enough to invite SSS scrutiny if it reaches Yuri.

Loid's honey trap collapses when Yor kicks him unconscious, and his botched read on her feelings leaves him wondering whether life with her has dulled his edge.

After hearing about Loid's mother, Yor agrees to remain his wife and Anya's mother, deepening the family's bond even though she forgets the night by morning.

Mission 35 spans 23 pages in Volume 6 and closes the Campbelldon Tennis Arc; Episode 24 adapts it, and the cover features Loid, Yor, and Yuri Briar.

When Yor imagines Fiona as Loid's new wife, Fiona's outfit inverts Yor's own clothing in this chapter, reinforcing the theme of the two women as opposites; the anime changes the colors. In Loid's memory his mother wears the same white shirt and brown skirt Yor has on in the present, a detail clearer in the colored edition and the anime.
