Chapter 52

Surrounded on the deck, Yor can find no way out for her clients, and a rooftop sniper settles his sights on her. He never fires; Matthew drops him from a distance, commandeers the rifle, and picks off three more assassins while dryly noting he had been wondering where the stragglers went. A final shot blows the lock off a hatch cover, giving the group somewhere to run.

Yor pushes Olka, Gram, and Zeb toward the opening, but a rope snares her ankle mid-escort. As mother and child drop into the hatch, a gunman rounds a corner and opens fire; Zeb throws himself over both of them, absorbing the shots before slamming the cover shut. Below, a frantic Olka discovers he survived thanks to a bulletproof vest, though he groans that it hurts plenty anyway, and she scolds him for the recklessness.

Kicking free of the rope, Yor whips it into the shooter, boots a crate over the hatch to seal it, and launches an assassin rigging explosives clean off the ship. Then she turns on the rest with a look of pure menace. Attackers come in waves and fall in waves, Yor dismantling them almost casually while Matthew's rifle accounts for anyone in the open.

Matthew descends to fight beside her, requesting she keep the bloodshed to a minimum; Yor apologizes, saying the situation offered little choice, and he concedes the point. Sizing up the opposition, he judges them talented but nowhere near Garden's standard, screws on his silencer, and instructs her to leave none alive.

What follows plays out against the fireworks and the oblivious festivity elsewhere on the ship: killers armed with claws, poison gas, wire, and chakram all break against Yor while Matthew trails her, disposing of bodies. In the finale's light, an electric baton and a hulking brawler's punch fail to slow her; she rams the baton down its owner's throat and buries the big man under a storm of spear-hand strikes timed to the last barrage. Her only complaint afterward is a jammed finger, which leaves the surviving assassins frozen in disbelief while Matthew tidies up.

Matthew reveals himself as a marksman, eliminating the sniper and multiple assassins before joining Yor on the deck, where he orders no survivors. Zeb shields Olka and Gram from gunfire, surviving through his bulletproof vest.

Yor annihilates the assembled killers under cover of the fireworks show, with Esmerelda and the King of Chakram among the dead, and emerges essentially unhurt apart from a jammed finger.

Series editor Shihei Lin conceived Yor's fireworks-synchronized rampage as an homage to the Kingsman scene scored to "Pomp and Circumstance."
