Chapter 66

Mission 66 of Tatsuya Endo's SPY x FAMILY ran on August 8, 2022, a 24-page entry in Volume 10's Friendship Schemes Arc.

Loid reacts with astonishment when Yor mentions bumping into Melinda Desmond, spouse of Donovan Desmond, and explains just how prominent the woman is. Yor recounts the meeting: after Melinda's formal introduction, Yor apologized for Anya punching Damian at orientation, and Melinda brushed it off, repeating herself with a chilling edge when Yor pressed. The other mothers described the Desmonds' hands-off approach to parenting and called Yor lucky, since most of them had befriended Melinda well before her days as First Lady. Melinda explained she valued friendships free of assumptions about her position and hoped Yor would visit again. During the ride home she offered, she brought up Damian's enjoyment of Eden Academy and his apparent closeness with Anya, then muttered a hope that the children get along while wearing an expression that left Yor uneasy.

Processing the story, Twilight reviews what WISE knows: Melinda keeps her circle as closed as her husband does, withdrew from politics after the National Unity Party fell, and seems distant from her husband and sons, making her a high-risk, low-value target on paper. After calculating the risks in both directions, Twilight agrees, telling her the connection strengthens her cover and that she deserves friends of her own. Privately he sees the upside either way: a harmless Melinda lowers the odds of Yor being reported, while a scheming one will find him watching. Above all, the friendship could unlock the Desmond household, so he drafts Plan C, the Mommy-Friends Scheme, potentially a straighter path to Donovan than Plan B. Anya reads all of it and, refusing to let her mother win the friendship contest, sprints off to study before falling asleep mid-plot.

Yor separately realizes her handler should know about the connection. The Shopkeeper raises no objection but pointedly notes Melinda's conservative leanings and warns her to stay balanced so Loid never suspects one-sided politics. Yor counters that Loid himself met Donovan and showed curiosity about the National Unity Party, a detail that visibly catches the Shopkeeper's interest.

At school, a sleep-deprived Anya asks Becky how to get closer to Damian. Becky prescribes the classic bread-in-mouth corner collision that supposedly binds two fates forever, stuffing a yakisoba burger into Anya's mouth. Damian dodges the incoming Friendship Crash, having expected some stunt, and mocks her, but her angry retort launches the burger onto his head, leaving his hair looking like hers. As Emile and Ewen howl at the resemblance and Damian boils over, Becky grabs the apologizing Anya and runs.

Yor relays her full encounter with Melinda Desmond, including Melinda's unnervingly serious moments and her interest in Damian and Anya's relationship.

Twilight authorizes Yor's entry into the Lady Patriots Society and formulates Plan C, the Mommy-Friends Scheme, a potential route to Donovan Desmond through his wife.

Yor reports the new friendship to the Shopkeeper, whose attention sharpens when she mentions that Loid once met Donovan personally and showed curiosity toward the National Unity Party.

Anya, spurred by reading Loid's thoughts, attempts Becky's bread-collision technique on Damian; he sidesteps it, and the resulting yakisoba burger to his head sends the girls fleeing.

Episode 42 adapts this chapter, whose cover presents Loid, Yor, and Anya. In one panel Yor wears the dress from Camilla's party back in Chapter 2.

Anya's Friendship Crash stance borrows the Tetsuzanko move from the Street Fighter games, and the chapter's illustration references the Virtua Fighter series.
