Short Mission 8

Grumbling about yet another pet-sitting shift, Franky watches Bond lock eyes across the dog park with a beautiful Afghan Hound and bark with excitement. The dog, Coco, and her attractive owner come over, and the owner mentions that the pair visit every second week. After they part, Franky teasingly asks whether Bond would like to become his dog, and an affirmative bark surprises him.

The following week Bond refuses his walk with Yor, then perks up when Franky arrives in a suit carrying a bouquet and volunteers to take him out. Seeing how close the two have grown, Yor lets them go. At the park they find Coco and her owner again; the humans sit down to talk while the dogs play. Recalling Franky's lesson that women of any species like kind, confident men, a nervous Bond steers Coco toward a balance beam, imagining himself gallantly helping her across. She dashes over it effortlessly, stunning him, and his own turn ends with a slipped paw and a painful split on the board.

Franky's second lesson, look sharp and sleek the way Loid does, sends Bond diving into a fountain, and the soaked result only makes Coco laugh. The final lesson calls for a gift. While Franky presents his flowers to the owner and is refused, Bond retrieves a caterpillar from the trees for Coco, who recoils and swats the bug into his face. At the same moment Franky blurts out a marriage proposal and earns a slap. Dog and owner hurry off, leaving both suitors crushed. Walking home, Franky remarks that neither of them held anything back, Bond agrees, and a bond is forged between them.

Coco and her owner make their debuts as Bond and Franky each fall in love. Franky's three courtship lessons, confidence, sleekness, and gift-giving, fail one after another.

The double rejection at the park cements the friendship between dog and informant.

Short Mission 8 is a twelve-page extra chapter of Tatsuya Endo's SPY x FAMILY manga, numbered 62.4 in Volume 10 and released on May 30, 2022, with Franky, Bond, Coco, and Coco's owner on the cover. The dog park's name, Tottemo Tanoshy, plays on the Japanese phrase totemo tanoshi, meaning very fun. Loid appears only within Bond's fantasy.
