Kurona Yasuhisa

Kurona and Nashiro began as identical twins with pale hair and dark eyes, until Kanou's surgery gave each of them a kakugan. Kurona's marked her left eye, a small dark spot resting beneath it, and her hair darkened to black in the aftermath. She wore a hooded black cloak topped with two white rings resembling a single eye, and her mask was a vertically striped black-and-white piece pierced at the left eye. By Tokyo Ghoul:re her hair had grown long and lightened back toward its childhood shade, she now bore a pair of kakugan rather than one, and grotesque dark flesh sheathed her arms and torso, with a warped, babbling face jutting from her stomach.

As a child Kurona was bright and cheerful, until she watched a ghoul butcher her parents. The trauma left her cold, distant, and nihilistic, and she embraced turning into a ghoul, blaming the twisted human world for her misfortune, a misanthropy that was in truth the product of Kanou's manipulation.

Above all else she cherished her sister Nashiro, willing to abandon any mission or grudge if Nashiro was in danger. When Kanou deserted them both after Nashiro was fatally wounded, a grief-stricken Kurona used her kagune to fuse her twin into her own body. By her return she is convinced Nashiro still lives and speaks to her, though the noise from the face on her belly is only flatulence, and her sanity has visibly frayed. Even so she remains shrewd, retreating when a fight turns against her and joining forces with Nishiki Nishio to hunt Kanou, and far more outspoken than the girl she once was.

Born into wealth and dreaming of becoming a chef, Kurona lost that life when a ghoul slaughtered her parents before her and Nashiro's eyes. The twins were taken into CCG custody and enrolled in the Academy Junior School, where at fifteen they shared classes with the boy then called Rei, later Juuzou Suzuya, and met Koutarou Amon during a guest lecture, first hearing the term one-eyed ghoul from him. Not long after, they found Juuzou blood-soaked in the woods and grasped he was behind a string of animal killings. The sisters then vanished, manipulated by Kanou into becoming subjects of the same experiment Kaneki underwent, and afterward came to call the doctor their father.

Serving as bodyguards to Madam A, the twins clashed with Kaneki, their shared kagune revealed as a copy of Rize Kamishiro's. On Kanou's orders Kurona later abandoned Madam A, then fought Shuu Tsukiyama and was cornered by Eto, who dug into the sisters' painful past. When Juuzou stabbed Kurona's kakugan and gravely wounded Nashiro, she fled to Kanou, only to be told her sister was beyond saving, and eventually absorbed Nashiro into herself.

Kurona reappeared during the Rushima Landing Operation as Floppy, downing Hanbee Abara before dueling Juuzou, surviving being sliced in half but ultimately overpowered once Juuzou put on the Arata armor. Finding Kanou, she demanded he save Nashiro and, enraged to learn the truth, tore through his released Quinx and Okahira. She then allied with Serpent to capture Roma Hoito, helped the escaping ghouls flee the island, and afterward met the One-Eyed King Kaneki, openly mocking his dream of coexistence before agreeing to help so long as Kanou died. She later joined a raid on a CCG lab to secure suppressants for Akira Mado, fighting the awakened Amon, and in the epilogue traveled to Europe and the Middle East, her whereabouts unknown.

Even before her transformation Kurona was a top cadet, strong, intelligent, and skilled with a quinque. Inheriting Rize's kakuhou gave her a potent rinkaku kagune, heightened speed and strength, and remarkable regeneration that let her reattach her severed upper body. By fusing with Nashiro she attained an incomplete, spider-like kakuja of large shoulder-mounted arms and an eye-covered half-mask, powerful enough to trouble a Special Class investigator, and she can also detach and wield her kagune much like a quinque.
