Shiki Kijima

Kijima presents a genuinely bizarre figure, heavyset and covered in scarring across both face and frame. Patches of mismatched skin grafts and warped features suggest old wounds from burning or mutilation. He favors a black suit topped with a matching hat and a red bow tie, and he gets around on a peg leg.

A single fixation rules him: hunting down the ghoul Jail to settle both his grief over slain subordinates and his bitterness over his own maiming. He never drops a veneer of politeness, yet underneath he is savage, drawing open delight from torturing and killing ghouls. On one occasion he tore out the tongue of a Rose member and broadcast the footage. His recklessness stems partly from self-contempt; he places no value on his battered body and greets even his own gruesome death with laughter, betraying how little his life meant to him. Toward the prisoners he questioned he wore a taunting, unsettlingly playful air.

Kijima once served as an interrogator inside Cochlea, and the Jail incident left him gravely wounded and reliant on a patched-together body. During the Rose investigation he introduced himself to Haise Sasaki as a partner on the case, then joined a trap set for Matsumae and her retinue, using Nimura Furuta as bait to seize the ghoul Yuuma. He tortured his captive to death, recorded the entire ordeal, and uploaded it to the CCG's site in a bid to lure Rose into striking back. The clip drew millions of viewers and earned him a scolding from Koori Ui, which he shrugged off without a shred of guilt.

When the operation against the Tsukiyama family unfolded at the Luna Eclipse, he cut down Kurei with his chainsaw quinque, Rotten Follow, and later closed in on Matsumae after watching her kill Hairu Ihei. His downfall came when Mairo, presumed dead, drove a strike through his shoulder; Matsumae seized the opening to lop off his arm and send Rotten Follow spinning into the air, where it dropped point-first into his skull. Still running, the blade left him twitching and babbling as he giggled through his last moments and toppled face down. In the field he carried two weapons, the capture-oriented bikaku Tetoro and the rinkaku chainsaw that ultimately killed him.
