:re Chapter 33

At the Tsukiyama Estate, Mirumo Tsukiyama grieves over his son. Shuu has been devouring ghouls and humans alike, and because of a hereditary flaw born from generations of intermarriage, his kagune has grown dangerously unstable. Mirumo wants him to form a proper kakuja but knows it is beyond reach, so he throws open a window and screams into the air. Kanae von Rosewald comes to check on him, and Mirumo admits he is simply overwhelmed, wondering what could possibly ease his son's suffering.

At the CCG, Matsuri Washuu chairs a meeting about kagune markings that echo those of the Rosewald family in Germany. The investigators conclude the two are distant relatives given how closely the patterns align. Afterward Mutsuki asks his mentor whether closer blood would mean closer markings, and Sasaki confirms that related ghouls tend to share similar traces, recalling the difficulties they had once comparing Rabbit's marks.

Inside an Aogiri Tree hideout, Ayato Kirishima and Tatara argue over whether to free Hinami. Tatara considers Cochlea too heavily guarded since their last break-in, but Miza insists Hinami's rare talents are worth the risk, and Ayato believes a plan can work. Seidou Takizawa mocks them for being ghouls swayed by affection, and when Ayato notes that Hinami once tried to stop him, Takizawa reminds him her real goal was to save Sasaki. Ayato withdraws and remembers first meeting Hinami as a new recruit, mocking her tears only for her to laugh with relief because he reminded her of her older sister. Eto and Noro watch the pair from a distance, intrigued.

At Cochlea, Sasaki visits Hinami and brings her books, apologizing that he cannot bring more. She thanks him warmly and calls him "big brother," a title he lets pass before their interrogation begins. When she uses it again afterward, he explains that he cannot be the man he once was without the memories or the life that shaped that person. Hinami accepts him as his own person yet feels the ache of how alike and unlike they are, guessing that many who loved Kaneki feel the same. Regretful, Sasaki ends the session and finds himself more uncertain than ever. His unease is broken by a scarred stranger who knows his name and finds his rapport with ghouls amusing. The man is Shiki Kijima, newly assigned to the Rose Investigation, and he departs with his partner Nimura Furuta, who nods nervously at Sasaki.

The CCG links the Rose case to the German Rosewald bloodline through matching kagune markings. Aogiri leans toward mounting a rescue of Hinami from Cochlea despite the tightened security. Hinami repeatedly names Sasaki her brother, pushing him to articulate why he can no longer be Kaneki. Shiki Kijima and Nimura Furuta are introduced as new members of the Rose Investigation.

The chapter appears in Volume 4 of Tokyo Ghoul:re under the Japanese title Idakusho. Its cover deliberately mirrors the cover of the original Tokyo Ghoul Chapter 33, a split composition showing Tsukiyama and Kaneki turned in opposite directions.
