Shikorae

In his teenage years as Rio, he had greenish hair and faintly red eyes, and activating his kakugan drew a vertical marking down his face that stayed with him ever after. Grown into Shikorae, he wears his brown hair long over a lean, toned build. His outfit pairs a striped, fish-scale-patterned crop top with dark trousers, and his necktie is printed over and over with the character for "God." A mask built from jagged bone conceals the lower half of his face.

Little is recorded of who Rio was before tragedy struck, save for the fierce bond he felt with his brother, whom he cried out for when he was taken. The Shikorae persona is muddled and forgetful, feeling almost nothing for the people he harms. Others describe his tempo as unhinged, and his clipped speech sometimes trails off into stray symbols. He also carries a distinct cowardly streak, once eager to withdraw from a fight with Nishiki Nishio after a single wound, and he shows little concern for the allies at his side.

Left an orphan young, Rio was raised by his older brother, who hid him away from other ghouls because of his uncommon gifts. He stayed concealed until his teens, when investigators killed his sole guardian; the loss broke him, and he massacred the men responsible in the event later named the Jail incident, afterward burying the memory of the rampage. Shiki Kijima, the lone survivor, eventually captured him and subjected him to nightly abuse within Cochlea until his mind gave out. Eto Yoshimura discovered him in that hollow state during the Second Cochlea Raid, recognized his potential, and had Aogiri take him in as the ghoul Shikorae.

Under Aogiri he ambushed the Quinx Squad and later hunted the Hachikawa Squad on Rushima alongside Seidou Takizawa, biting off Chuu Hachikawa's nose before the two devoured him. When Aogiri fell he attached himself to fellow escapee Roma Hoito, fighting beside her against Nishiki and Kurona before fleeing out of his hatred for combat. During Furuta's purge he attacked Kuki Urie and Iwao Kuroiwa, survived a snapped neck, lost an arm, and was hurled from a high window still screaming for his brother.

He endured even that, and after the Dragon War his singular talent of growing fresh kagune from absorbed Rc cells reached its peak. Already the first ghoul shown wielding all four kagune types, he consumed the remains of Dragon's orphans and blossomed a monstrous kakuja, racking up so many casualties that he became the TSC's single greatest ghoul adversary.
