Tatara is one of Aogiri Tree's commanders and a trusted servant of the One-Eyed King. A Chinese ghoul who once belonged to Chi She Lian, he carries a burning hatred for the investigator who wiped out that group and killed his brother, a grudge that ultimately shapes his final stand.
Tatara stands tall, his frame topped with cropped white hair and eyes of a deep red. He keeps the lower half of his face hidden behind a red iron mask, and a pale cloak usually drapes his shoulders. On his earliest scene beside Eto, he instead wrapped himself in an oversized blue garment. His bloodless coloring, crimson gaze, and colorless hair have led some readers to assume he is albino.
Loyalty defines him. Serving directly beneath the One-Eyed Owl, Tatara holds a cool, unreadable manner and quietly supervises the ruthless executives who carry out Aogiri's bloodier work. He takes visible pride in two things: the depth of his stamina during a fight and the sharpness of his calculations. A taste for precision guides many of his decisions, which is why he cast Kaneki aside once the artificial one-eyed ghoul failed to meet his standard.
Ayato once observed that Tatara treats his followers as disposable tools, an assessment the commander readily confirmed. Beneath the composure sits a raw wound, his fury toward Kousuke Houji, the man tied to the massacre of his Chinese comrades, including his brother. The mere sight of a quinque linked to that investigator was enough to crack his usual calm.
When Yamori, Nico, and Ayato dragged the captured Kaneki before him, Tatara drove a strike into the young ghoul's midsection to force his left kakugan open. Judging the eye worthless, he handed the prisoner to Ayato and left with Eto, placing Noro in charge of the 11th Ward Base and warning that the doves would soon arrive. During the wider battle in that ward, he and Eto led a strike on Cochlea that released several dangerous ghouls. He later questioned Taguchi over Kanou's location and passed a severed foot to Naki.
Near the close of the Owl Suppression Operation, Tatara intercepted Seidou Takizawa's reinforcements, announcing that the King was about to pass through, then knelt before that King after Route V14 as a beaten Kaneki was hauled away. Two years afterward he directed Aogiri's assault on a quinque steel shipment, clashed with Ayato over rescuing Hinami, and kept a working peace with Kanou. His end came during the Rushima Landing Operation, where he faced Houji's squad, revealed his kakuja, and dueled the investigator directly before Takizawa overwhelmed him with ukaku shards and finished him. Dying, he reflected on the Anteiku raid and wondered whether Arima had found what he was searching for.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
Tatara is killed by Seidou Takizawa during the Rushima Landing Operation. After dueling investigator Kousuke Houji and revealing his kakuja, Tatara is overwhelmed by a barrage of Takizawa's ukaku shards and dies reflecting on the Anteiku raid.
Tatara's older brother is Yan, a fellow ghoul from the Chinese group Chi She Lian who died in a massacre carried out by investigator Kousuke Houji. Yan's death is the source of Tatara's lasting hatred for Houji.
Tatara possesses a bikaku kagune, a tail-shaped weapon powerful enough to cut down an entire investigator squad. After consuming many ghouls he also awakens a bikaku kakuja resembling a salamander, complete with a pseudo-pyrokinetic flame attack.
Tatara acts as one of the series' antagonists, serving as a commander of Aogiri Tree and a trusted servant of the One-Eyed King. He treats his subordinates as disposable tools and applies cold, calculating loyalty to the organization's often brutal goals.
