Kurumatani joined the strike on Kanou's laboratory led by Special Class Shinohara, pressing toward the central chamber where the group ran into Ken Kaneki's unfinished kakuja. He held back with Juuji Isoyama to give covering fire while Shinohara engaged, but Kaneki's blinding speed caused every shot from Aburagama to miss. The investigators had all but given up once Shinohara fell, only to feel a wave of relief when Koutarou Amon arrived at the scene.
