Touka Kirishima

Touka is a slender teenage girl whose bobbed dark blue hair carries long bangs that fall over the right side of her face, framing a pair of blue eyes. She reads as an ordinary and even cute young woman, the last person anyone would suspect of being a ghoul, and her features strongly echo those of her mother and her younger brother. At Anteiku she wears a waitress outfit built around a white shirt, black vest, red tie, and layered skirts over red leggings, while her off-duty clothes lean toward tomboyish streetwear.

When she hunts as Rabbit, she pulls on a long coat, her rabbit mask, and a blonde or pink wig to conceal who she is. After the timeskip she matures into a striking woman who leaves several characters speechless, dyeing her hair a lighter shade of blue, cropping it into a bouncier bob, and shifting toward a softer, more feminine wardrobe. She later returns the color to its original dark blue following the Clown Siege.

Touka's early self is split between fury and tenderness, and her arc traces that rage cooling as her kindness rises to the surface. Compassion is her true nature, buried beneath the harsh survival instincts she built after losing her father and being forced to navigate the ghoul world alone. She is rash and reckless, quick to lose her grip on her emotions whenever someone dear is threatened, driven by abandonment wounds and a deep insecurity about being a ghoul. She longs to pass as human and live peacefully, a wish rooted in her father's lesson that survival meant blending into human society, yet she cannot stomach cruelty aimed at ghouls and lashes out when the anger grows too heavy.

Her hatred of investigators runs deep, springing from a family shattered by the CCG and a girlhood spent as a fugitive. That rage begins to fade after she kills Kureo Mado in revenge and learns he was a married man, a discovery that shows her she is only feeding the same cycle of loss she once suffered. Following the Anteiku Raid she turns markedly gentler and more mature, taking up the live-while-losing outlook that Renji Yomo taught her, growing less reckless and more careful with her feelings. In time she accepts her love for Kaneki and, instead of denying it in embarrassment, becomes bold enough to voice it openly.

The daughter of Arata and Hikari Kirishima and elder sister to Ayato, Touka lost her father young and shouldered the task of raising her brother while surviving as a hunted ghoul. She eventually accepted Yoshimura's offer to attend school and wait tables at Anteiku, coming to treasure a taste of ordinary human life beside her human best friend, Yoriko. Her bond with Ken Kaneki opened in open hostility once he became a half-ghoul, but it warmed as she trained him and he helped her avenge Ryouko, and she quietly fell for him after he admitted he would grieve to lose her.

When Kaneki left Anteiku following his rescue, his rejection sent her fleeing in dismay, and she later struck and berated the colder man he had become. Believing him dead, she mourned yet held onto hope. Two years on she resurfaces as manager of the coffee shop :re, opened with Yomo, and reunites with Kaneki once his memories return. After :re is destroyed she joins the organization Goat and moves to the 24th ward. Escaping an ambush by Mutsuki and the Oggai, she and Kaneki shelter together and consummate their relationship, after which she becomes pregnant and agrees to marry him. When Kaneki seems to die as the Dragon emerges, she breaks down and digs through the creature to reach him. With the crisis behind them, the two live married with their daughter Ichika and another child on the way, as humans and ghouls at last begin to coexist.
