Yakumo Oomori

Broad and heavily built, Yamori keeps his blonde hair slicked back above narrow, reptilian eyes, a face often likened to a gecko's. His usual dress, a white suit over a black shirt, gives him the air of a mobster, and he tops it with a hockey mask patterned on Jason Voorhees to match his violent temper. Earlier, during the events of Tokyo Ghoul: Jack, he cuts a leaner figure with dark hair and a black suit.

Yamori's cruelty takes shape in captivity, where he copes with relentless torture by adopting the arrogance and sadism of the man breaking him. What emerges is a manipulative, dishonest ghoul who reaches for violence to get whatever he wants, yet carries it all with an oddly breezy air. He picks up his tormentor's habit of cracking his knuckles, a tic he later passes to Kaneki, and for all his savagery he loves his mother deeply, crying out for her as he dies.

Yamori loses his mother at some point in his past. In the 13th Ward he runs with Sumiharu Katou and Uruka Minami, and at Minami's urging he helps ambush the investigators Kishou Arima and Taishi Fura. He has the young Fura beaten until Arima blindsides and wounds him, forcing a retreat through the CCG's cordon.

A later slip lands him in Cochlea, the detention center in the 23rd Ward, where the CCG keeps him alive for what he knows about his home district. There a sadistic interrogator tortures him without mercy. To survive the ordeal he convinces himself that he inflicts the pain rather than endures it, and when their positions truly reverse he feels a rush that, to him, resembles becoming human. He absorbs his captor's methods, then begins dragging victims into a torture room of his own, and around this time he takes the younger Naki under his wing.

Under Aogiri Tree's orders, Yamori and Nico set out to seize Rize Kamishiro or anyone carrying her scent. With Ayato Kirishima he storms Anteiku and captures Ken Kaneki, then claims him as a fresh plaything. He crushes an escape attempt by the Anti-Aogiri prisoners, killing Tetsu and Moku, and coerces Kaneki into becoming his underling. Over ten days he injects the boy with Rc suppressants, severs his fingers and toes and forces him to eat so they regrow, and even lodges a centipede in his ear.

When physical agony fails to break his captive, Yamori demands he choose which of two prisoners will die, then kills both when Kaneki cannot decide, tipping the half-ghoul into embracing his monstrous side. As the CCG assaults the 11th Ward base, Yamori arrives to devour his prisoner, only to be bitten, broken free of, and beaten in the fight that follows. Kaneki consumes his kagune and abandons him, and a gravely wounded Yamori is finished off by Juuzou Suzuya, whose new quinque, 13's Jason, is forged from his kakuhou. In combat he wields a versatile rinkaku kagune and an incomplete kakuja that lends extra armor and healing but leaves him swinging like a blind berserker.
