A lovestruck ghoul named Banjou seeks out Rize at Anteiku, unaware she is dead, while at the Aogiri Tree hideout another searcher for Rize is revealed to be Touka's estranged brother.
Kazuichi Banjou enters Anteiku asking for the manager, explaining he wants information about Rize Kamishiro. Kaneki and Touka Kirishima lead him deeper inside and ask him to prove he is a ghoul, which he does by revealing his kakugan. Banjou says he and Rize once lived in the 11th ward and that he came searching for her. Sensing Rize's scent on Kaneki, he grows agitated and accuses him of being her boyfriend, then swings a fist. When Kaneki accidentally catches him with an elbow, Banjou drops unconscious.
As he sleeps, his followers explain that Banjou had loved Rize and admired how she lived by her own strength. Her departure from the 11th ward left him feeling small, yet he led the ward as best he could because she had entrusted it to him. Learning that Banjou knows of Rize's past, Kaneki resolves to talk with him.
At the Aogiri Tree hideout, a young man fumes that Banjou has ignored his calls. He too is hunting for Rize, and when asked about growing up in the 20th ward he calls both the ward and his own family peaceful. He is then named as Ayato Kirishima, a ghoul of the 11th ward.
Banjou comes to Anteiku seeking Rize and faints after fighting Kaneki. His followers reveal his devotion to Rize. Ayato Kirishima is introduced at the Aogiri Tree hideout, also searching for Rize.
