Kaneki reaches the rooftop just in time, rescuing Touka and turning to face Ayato. Donning the eyepatch once more, he refuses to kill the boy for Touka's sake and instead vows to beat him only halfway to death.
Ken Kaneki and Kazuichi Banjou's group gather outside the Aogiri stronghold at the 11th Ward Base, where Kaneki assures them no enemies are near. Within the building, Nishiki Nishio is chased by a swarm of Aogiri ghouls until Kaneki appears and cuts them down, catching Nishiki off guard. Kaneki then races to the rooftop to pull Touka Kirishima out of Ayato Kirishima's reach.
Cradling Touka, Kaneki apologizes for all that has happened and asks Nishiki to carry her to safety. Nishiki tosses him the leather eyepatch. Ayato praises Kaneki's new look before hurling a barrage of kagune shards at him. When Ayato demands to be killed, Kaneki refuses, unwilling to cause Touka grief, and declares instead that he will beat Ayato only halfway to death.
Kaneki confirms the area is clear, then saves Nishiki from a pack of Aogiri ghouls. Reaching the roof, he rescues Touka from Ayato and takes back the eyepatch from Nishiki. Facing Ayato's kagune barrage, Kaneki refuses to kill him for Touka's sake and vows to beat him halfway to death.
