:re Chapter 122

Amid an awkward silence, Touka asks Kaneki to clean the coffee he spilled, then watches him nervously sip from the empty cup. She repeats her earlier question until he asks what she means, and, flustered and hoping for rescue, he hears her tell him plainly that when the moment is right, she would welcome intimacy with him. She also asks why he left her behind and took the other Anteiku ghouls away, and Kaneki explains that he feared her reckless streak would send her charging into danger; he wanted to shield her from death. Touka observes that Haise used to look at her the way Kaneki once looked at Rize, before Shuu Tsukiyama bursts in breathless, calling for Kaneki.

In another scene, Kichimura Washuu and Koori Ui stand atop a heap of ghoul corpses as the bureau chief addresses the public and swears to wipe out every ghoul. The dead are revealed to be members of Goat. Learning this, Kaneki orders all bases dissolved, splitting the organization into squads that will regroup at midnight. He invites Touka to come with him, and just as he reaches for the door, Tooru Mutsuki barges in, beaming, thrilled to finally meet his former mentor.

Touka tells Kaneki she is ready to be intimate when the time is right and learns why he left her behind. Furuta publicly vows to exterminate all ghouls atop a pile of slain Goat members. Kaneki orders Goat's bases dissolved and its members split into squads. Mutsuki intrudes on Kaneki, delighted to meet his old teacher.
