Summary

Akira Mado tells Kaneki how her encounter with Hinami stirred long-buried feelings, and she confesses a hollow loneliness left behind after everyone she leaned on was gone. Kaneki reminds her that he remains and still holds Haise Sasaki's memories, but she counters that memories do not make him Haise, then drives a fist into his stomach as she once did at the CCG. Rising with a sad smile, he admits his own loneliness, and she echoes it.

Akira later meets Amon and recounts how the ghoul children left her at a dead end, unable to move forward. Amon urges her to simply sit with the emptiness, promising to remain at her side through it. His reassurance leads the former partners into a kiss. Elsewhere, the Quinx Squad, Juuzou Suzuya, and Kuramoto Itou question whether the man executed as Haise was truly him, reasoning that ghouls like Uta can alter their faces. Saiko is overjoyed at the possibility he lives, while Urie concludes Haise defected and that exposing Furuta's lies would change little beyond confirming them.

Furuta introduces Koori Ui to Dr. Kanou and checks on the Oggai. When Ui challenges his methods and Kanou's past collaboration with Aogiri, Furuta claims he is strengthening the Quinx to match monstrous ghouls like Noro. He then produces a cylinder holding Hairu Ihei's severed head, dangling the promise of her revival to torment Ui's conscience. Meanwhile, Takeomi Kuroiwa asks Tooru Mutsuki to track down Yoriko Kosaka's friend Touka so she can be invited to the wedding. Touka, having dyed her hair back to its natural shade, talks with Kaneki and abruptly asks about his virginity, so startling him that he spills his coffee.
