:re Chapter 138

The bullet only staggers Kichimura Washuu, who rights himself, plucks the round from his forehead, and calls out to whoever fired. It was Itsuki Marude, arriving with Katsuya Mabuchi and a body of investigators intent on reclaiming the CCG, and they open fire in unison. Kichimura crumples, prompting Marude to hold his men back, before he lashes out with his kagune in answer. Marude steadies the squad and looses a rocket launcher loaded with newly developed RC shell rounds, tearing away most of the kagune as the gunfire continues without pause.

Cornered and furious, Kichimura bolts for a breach in the wall and leaps out to flee. Matsuri Washuu drops in and pursues, slashing at him repeatedly in midair with a katana, but Kichimura uses his kagune to break away, lands on a rooftop, and vanishes. Marude concedes he brought too few soldiers.

Marude goes to Urie and the fatally wounded Iwao Kuroiwa, staying with the dying veteran and promising to remain at his side. Kuroiwa shuts his eyes and passes peacefully. Matsuri rejoins them, glad to see Urie once more. When Marude asks what should be done about Urie, Urie looks over to see him conferring with Scarecrow, who raises a writing pad reading that he is Hideyoshi Nagachika and asking Urie to lend him his strength.

The chapter 塔から落ちる (Tō kara ochiru), Falling from the Tower, is the one hundred thirty-eighth of Tokyo Ghoul:re and appeared in issue 2017-40 on August 31, 2017. It marks the loyalist strike that finally drives Kichimura from power and reintroduces Hide behind the Scarecrow mask.
