:re Chapter 4

Riding in Torso's taxi, Hinami Fueguchi cautions him that his heavy feeding has drawn the Doves' attention and asks for a USB flash drive. Her sharp sense of smell picks up blood on both the cab and Torso, and she describes the Quinx Squad, a group Torso knows only by rumor as humans fitted with built-in abilities. She warns that one of them shares her keen nose, and that if the CCG captures him, information about Aogiri Tree could leak through him. Privately she wonders how much the Quinx resemble her "brother."

On the fifteenth day of the squad's Torso investigation, Urie and Shirazu visit Akira Mado to collect their quinques, and she asks after their progress. A flashback shows the two receiving fresh photos from Chie Hori and paying her, absurdly, with Sasaki's boxer briefs. Hori explains that one shot was found near a victim, that Torso was inadvertently taking test images, and that all the victims bear scars. Noting the photos came from an instant camera, she compares Polaroid, Cheki, and MUJI film, then photographs the two men with different cameras to show the results. Because Torso's pictures show the same faded color as the Immortal brand, and because Immortal is a foreign make sold only in specialty shops, they reason he lives near the killing grounds.

After the flashback, Akira hands over their plain bikaku quinques, the Tsunagi, warning that their kagune should not make them neglect these weapons. She recounts how the quinque was devised by the previous chairman, Yoshiu Washuu, father of Tsuneyoshi, together with Ghoul Forschung Gesellschaft director Adam Gehner, and how the technology led to the Quinx: hybrid soldiers with built-in quinques who keep a ghoul's physical power without the shifting kagune. She stresses they are not ghouls, and after they say little about ever seeing Sasaki fight at full strength, she urges them to be cautious around him.

Through days seventeen to twenty-one, Sasaki and Mutsuki question people close to Torso's victims and conclude that every target was a woman bearing a surgical scar, pointing them toward areas with surgical clinics. By day twenty-five, with the deadline near, Mutsuki keeps watch alone at such a clinic. When a taxi stops and a woman leaves the hospital, he fears she is the next victim and jumps into the cab to intervene. Idle small talk with the driver ends abruptly when the man seizes Mutsuki by the neck, revealing himself as Torso, who tears open Mutsuki's shirt to expose the breasts he hides beneath a compression binder, along with scarring.

Hinami warns Torso of the Quinx Squad's pursuit and their shared sense of smell. The squad narrows down Torso's location by identifying his rare Immortal-brand instant camera. Akira explains the origin of the quinque and the Quinx hybrid program while cautioning the pair about Sasaki. Mutsuki, staking out a clinic, is grabbed by Torso in his taxi and his concealed body is exposed.

The chapter opens Volume 1 of Tokyo Ghoul:re and carries the punning Japanese title Mi to Shi, Mi to Shi. It ends on the reveal of Mutsuki as Torso's chosen victim, a cliffhanger that sets up the young investigator's harrowing confrontation.
