Summary

Yomo and Touka pull Shuu Tsukiyama clear just as investigators move to strike him down. Chie urges him into a stolen van so the group can flee, and as she passes him a warm towel he notices his own father at the wheel. The elder Tsukiyama explains that he broke out of custody after learning the helicopter he had sent was shot down, determined to reach his son. Surprised Shuu survived the fall, he hears that Kaneki pushed him off and that Karren died to save him. Chie points out that Kaneki could have finished Shuu had he truly wished to. Elsewhere, Aogiri Tree raids the vehicles carrying the dead investigators and makes off with several bodies while Furuta looks on, smiling and humming a tune. It comes out that Chie was the one who enlisted Touka and Yomo, and after her prompting Shuu thanks them both. He asks whether she had been afraid, and she says there was never time to dwell on it.

At the graveyard, investigators grieve their fallen. Saiko, Mutsuki, and Akira mourn Shirazu, and when Mutsuki asks why Urie will not visit the grave, Urie answers that Shirazu is not there and swears to recover his body.

In Kanou's laboratory, the doctor has dissected Shirazu and marvels at the Quinx surgical technology devised by Kouitsu Chigyou, intending to fold it into his own ghoulification procedure to raise its success rate. He praises Chigyou's work and remarks that more corpses are needed, then says he wants to brief Eto on his progress. Tatara tells him she is occupied, and when Kanou asks with what, replies that it is none of his concern. Eto, meanwhile, soaks in a bath, her body fully restored, musing that his arm should have grown back and wondering whether her kagune was to his liking.

Kaneki leads his own squad against Aogiri ghouls, who call him the Black Reaper, and orders the remaining ghouls wiped out. Sasaki receives an off-cycle promotion to Associate Special Class for holding off the One-Eyed Owl on his own, willingly steps down as the Quinx Squad's mentor, and hands leadership to Urie in place of the late Shirazu.
