Summary

Shaken by the sight of Kaneki eating the Owl's kakuja, Koori Ui demands an explanation. Holding to his Haise identity, Kaneki apologizes and settles him, claiming he was only restoring his strength after the clash. When Ui asks whether the Owl was destroyed, Sasaki answers that she slipped away despite the mortal injuries he inflicted. He then reports his run-in with Tsukiyama and asserts that the Tsukiyama Family and Aogiri Tree are linked after all. Gesturing at Kanae von Rosewald, he tells Ui she is one of them, then drives his kagune through Tsukiyama's abdomen. He hangs the wounded man over the edge of the Lunar Eclipse, casts a sidelong look toward Kanae, and lets go.

Kanae screams and dives after Tsukiyama, hoping to catch him. As they fall together, Tsukiyama begs her to release him and go on living, but she refuses. Speaking in German, she vows to protect him and calls him her whole world, then makes her final request, that he call her by her real name, Karren. In her last moments she confesses her love and asks forgiveness from her family and from Tsukiyama for having fallen for him. With a sorrowful look, he answers in German that no one will punish her and speaks her true name for the first and only time. Startled, Karren hooks a ledge with her kagune and uses the swing to fling Tsukiyama clear to safety. As he cries out to her, she reflects on the pain of living as someone she was not and the joy of dying as herself, wondering whether she deserves such happiness before her body breaks on the ground below.

Later, Sasaki meets Urie downstairs. Devastated, Urie tells his mentor of Shirazu's death and accuses him of having been absent. Sasaki responds coldly, asking whether the death was his fault when Urie was the one present for the fight. He tells Urie that every loss in the world stems from a lack of strength, and that if he must curse anything, he should curse his own weakness, before joining the rest of the Quinx Squad in mourning over Shirazu.
