:re Chapter 62

Eto and Shunji Shiono look back on how they first crossed paths. At fourteen, Eto carried a manuscript to Shoeisha, where a busy Shiono held onto it and put her off, barely glancing at the pages without truly reading them.

Later the Editor-in-Chief spotted the manuscript in the office, pressed Shiono about it, and skimmed it himself. Furious that Shiono had failed to see its worth, he seized and shook the man, berating him for missing the promise in Eto's writing, then ordered him to track her down at once.

Living in hardship, Eto had hoped the manuscript would earn her some money. Instead she lifted a purse from a passing human and later tricked a man out of his car by claiming a policeman had called for him so she could rob him. While other ghouls marveled at her haul, she thought only of needing more strength and manpower to fight her enemies, vowing over her dead mother's memory never to flee as her father had. Returning to Shoeisha to reclaim her work, she met a frantic Shiono demanding to know why she had left no contact details, and she explained she had none. Learning she lived in an orphanage, a fact she had kept from the staff, he gave her a mobile phone, signed her as one of the publisher's authors, and became her editor.

Some time afterward, Eto peered through the window of Anteiku, and visibly angered by what she saw inside, she crushed a book titled Dropped Box, flung it down, and walked off, leaving Yoshimura to find it later. On another day, Shiono let himself into her unlocked apartment to leave refreshments while she slept, and opening the refrigerator to store them, he discovered human body parts sealed in containers. Eto called out to him but let the moment pass.

In the present, Shiono is released after Eto turns herself in. As he apologizes without pause, Investigator Haise Sasaki reveals that Shiono confessed fifteen minutes earlier to once finding human remains in her apartment, and he places Eto under arrest. Eto warns that if he believes he has won, he had better be ready to silence her, then tells Shiono she holds no grudge and thanks him for making her an author. On Rushima, Seidou Takizawa attacks the Hachikawa Squad and kills two of its members, and as Hachikawa condemns what Takizawa has become, Shikorae creeps up from behind and bites off his nose.

Flashbacks show a fourteen-year-old Eto bringing her manuscript to Shoeisha and being signed as an author by Shiono, who becomes her editor. Shiono discovers human body parts in Eto's refrigerator. In the present, Eto surrenders and is arrested by Sasaki, thanking Shiono despite his confession. At Rushima, Takizawa kills two Hachikawa Squad members and Shikorae ambushes Hachikawa.

The chapter is titled To o Daku (都を抱く), rendered as Embracing The Capital, and belongs to the sixth volume of Tokyo Ghoul:re. Its title puns on the word redact.
