Seidou Takizawa's sudden entrance halts the duel between Tatara and Houji. Tatara's attempt to burn him falls short, and Seidou responds by scattering ukaku shards and landing on the ghoul's back to rip away pieces of his kakuja. The wound triggers a release of fire that engulfs Seidou as Akira looks on aghast, yet he heals at once, exposes his own kakuja mask, and drives into Tatara's abdomen.

Before he can devour his opponent, Yumitsu Tomoe strikes at him with her quinque. Seidou grabs the blade, beats her repeatedly, and hurls her aside while keeping the weapon, then rushes back to run it through Tatara's skull. A final blow from his kagune ends the ghoul entirely.

Expecting applause, Seidou faces the CCG and waits, but Houji instead commands his forces to attack him. The order enrages Seidou, who decapitates Houji and cuts down the surrounding troops. Gripping Akira's throat, he insists he wanted to be honored as a hero for slaying Tatara, only for her to remind him that he remains a human-devouring ghoul. His fury deepens and his hold tightens, threatening to smother her, until Koutarou Amon severs Seidou's arm and saves her.

Seidou kills Tatara, first tearing at his kakuja and then finishing him with Yumitsu Tomoe's quinque and his own kagune. When the CCG orders an assault on him rather than praise, he beheads Houji and slaughters the troops. He begins strangling Akira Mado while raging over being denied recognition, and Koutarou Amon cuts off his arm to rescue her.

This chapter appeared in issue 2016-39 on August 25, 2016, as part of the ninth volume of the sequel manga. Its Japanese title reads Ōto Subeki. The installment marks Tatara's death and crystallizes Seidou's tragedy, showing a former investigator craving validation from the organization that now views him as a monster.
