Summary
Now a young man sold into bondage, Thorfinn toils at Ketil's farm, where he strikes up a friendship with Einar, a fellow captive from Britain. The two work steadily toward the day they can purchase their liberty, while Thorfinn, hollowed out by remorse, confronts the memory of the merciless killer he used to be.

Aftermath
Far from the fields, King Canute sets his ambition to build a paradise on earth into motion, all while wrestling with what the story calls the Curse of the Crown, a torment that leaves him haunted by visions of his dead father's speaking head.
