Summary

Thorfinn weds Gudrid, and the couple raise Karli as their own son. Backed by the supplies Halfdan pledged, he gathers a crew and sails to plant a colony in Vinland. By clearing part of the forest and coaxing wheat from the soil, he builds a settlement where no one needs to carry a weapon, and he forges a calm understanding with the native Mi'kmaq, who come to regard the newcomers as peaceful.
