History

Kjallakr ran his farm and its slaves close to Ketil's land until Gardar rose up and broke free, beginning his revenge by killing Kjallakr's sons. When the warrior pushed into the house, Kjallakr dragged himself away to escape, abandoning a woman and infant of his family still inside. Cornered in the open, he dropped to his knees and pleaded, apologizing for all he had done and promising both freedom and gold. Gardar answered that no payment could wipe away the shame of bondage, and that his old master would never grasp it without living a slave's life himself. Kjallakr then offered to become Gardar's own slave, kissing his boot and begging to be spared. Gardar took him at his word, ruling that a slave's life belonged to its owner, and killed him. He set the house ablaze but let the household's women and children live.
